Joe LoCascio, with 5 goals led the Terrapins past the Tar Heels
Terps surf to 10-8 win over Heels

The University of Maryland, behind a 5 goal performance by senior midfielder Joe LoCascio, upset the #2 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels 10-8 in the second annual Pacific Coast Shootout.

Senior Joe LoCascio scored a career-high five goals and Kyle Bernlohr made 11 saves as the No. 5 Maryland men’s lacrosse team knocked off previously unbeaten No. 2 North Carolina, 10-8, Saturday night before a crowd of 6,785 in the Pacific Coast Shootout at Santa Ana Stadium.

In a matchup pitting the nation’s top defensive (Maryland) and top offensive (UNC) sides, it was the defense that prevailed as the Terps held the Tar Heels more than eight goals below their season average.

Although North Carolina struck first in the first 90 seconds, it was the Terrapins who answered back with a pair of goals from Henry West and LoCascio. Tate Jozokos then closed the quarter with a Tar Heel goal to square the game, 2-2.

That would be the final North Carolina goal for a span of 33:25, however, as LoCascio and Colin Heacock combined for five goals in a monstrous 5-0 Terp run that gave Maryland a commanding 7-2 advantage. Heacock finished the game with a career-high three goals.
